November 2002
Dear Friends,
Greetings to you all from Thika, Kenya. Our family
is healthy and doing well. We are thankful for what the Lord is doing in
our church and for what He is teaching us personally. Thank you to all
who
pray for us so faithfully. Michael would also
like to thank all the many people who sent him birthday cards this past
October. If you, by any chance, would like to see a recent picture of our
family just let
us know and we’ll send you an e-mail copy. The
picture is 96 kilobytes.
We have been continuing on in the ministry of Jumapili
Baptist Church and are thankful for what the Lord has been doing. We have
been excited to see the new church building going up week by week
over the past several months. The last week in
October we were able to finish putting up the trusses. We are now putting
on the metal roofing sheets. We are planning to have our first main service
in the
new building on Sunday, November 17. That Sunday
will be our dedication Sunday for this new building. The new building won’t
be 100% done by then, but enough is completed for us to start using
it. Please pray for God’s enabling to completely
finish this new building sometime in the near future.
We just wanted to mention that the Lord did allow
us to connect our church plot to the municipal water supply (a few people
had asked about that). Michael and several of our church young people even
connected the church baptistry tank to that water
supply, so we will be able to have baptisms in our new church building.
This new building will give us much more room,
which means many more people need to get saved and added to Jumapili Baptist
Church. The community in which our church is located is a
rapidly-developing community on the edge of Thika
town. We hope to reach many of those newcomers through God’s help. Please
pray with us that God will save many more people and add them to the
Jumapili Baptist Church.
In an effort to help reach more people for Christ
in our church area, Michael, along with four other men from our church,
recently attended the Netcasters soul-winning training seminar in Nairobi.
It was
a week-long course providing a lot of good teaching
in regard to soul winning and the Spirit-filled life. Our men really enjoyed
the Netcasters Bible teaching and fellowshipping with believers from other
Baptist churches in the Nairobi area.
Several people have recently made professions of
faith and need much prayer that they will continue to grow. Their names
are Chrispine Onyango, Alex Muriithi, John Waithaka, and Nicholas Muriithi.
Each has continued coming to church. There are
several others who also need your prayers. Joyce Njambi admitted she is
not yet saved and still has not accepted Christ. Beatrice Wamuhu and Magdaline
Wanjiru have been saved and need our prayers for
continued growth and faithfulness to the Lord. Both come to church quite
often.
At this point we are planning to go on furlough
in November of 2003 until June of 2004. We are very grateful for all the
many churches that support our family here in Kenya. We would be happy
to
come to your church and share what has been going
on in our ministry if you think that might fit into your church’s schedule.
The best way to contact us here in Kenya would probably be by e-mail if
you
have any questions or would like to schedule a
meeting.
Sincerely,
Michael, Tina, Ashlyn, and Taylor Rains
